Emergency roof repairs in Stowmarket are a straight run up the A14 for us, fourteen miles and twenty five minutes of dual carriageway, which puts IP14 inside the two hour window during daylight. Open mid-Suffolk farmland is what makes the damage worse than the street suggests. There is nothing between the fields and an exposed gable end, so wind arrives with a long uninterrupted run behind it and loads the verges and the ridges hardest. Even the sheltered-looking estates at Combs Ford and Chilton Leys catch it on the end plots. Most of what we are called to after a gale in IP14 is a ridge or a verge rather than a hole in the middle of a slope.
