The Edwardian villas on Hamilton Gardens and Sea Road are slate and clay with substantial leadwork, and it is the ridge detail and the lead that go first, because the exposed elevation takes weather every day of the year. Inland at Walton and the Trimleys the post-war stock is concrete interlocking, sound enough on the slopes but sitting alongside felt garage and extension roofs that have failed at the upstands.
